The HR2980 faithfully reproduces an E.646 “Navetta” in its most characteristic late-century configuration, featuring “Triplex” armoured windshields introduced in the second half of the 1980s and anti-hunting dampers added from 1996 to improve stability and reduce wear — key details that define the look and performance of these locomotives in their final years of service.
Technical features:
- Highly detailed reproduction of all features specific to the prototype units from the chosen era.
- Reliable mechanism with articulated frame and metal gearboxes, powerful five-pole central motor with twin cardan shafts driving both outer bogies, and two traction tyres for optimal grip.
- 21-pin NEM 660 / 21MTC socket for DCC or DCC Sound decoder, with provision for an 11 x 15 mm “sugar cube” speaker.
- “HM” versions fitted with a Hornby HM7000 Bluetooth sound decoder and speaker as standard, offering model-specific sound profiles.
- Directional white headlights and red tail lights, automatically changing with the direction of travel, with independent control for each cab.
- Prepared for three-rail operation with optional central pick-up shoe; system selection via jumper on the PCB.
- NEM 362 coupler pockets with close-coupling kinematics at both ends; coupler mounts can be removed to fully detail the bufferbeams with realistic fittings.
- Finely detailed FS Type 52 pantographs in full metal, functional for current collection.
- Highly realistic U1250 bogies, featuring numerous separately fitted components and version-specific details and colours according to the prototype and period.
